Canada should not be treated as one very large city page. A national strategy has to account for regional demand, industry differences, language requirements where they genuinely apply, and the difference between country-level authority and city-level intent.

The first job is making the entity unambiguous: what the business does, who it serves, where it actually operates and why it is credible. Then build pages that match the questions Canadian buyers are asking, which are not always the questions American buyers ask about the same product.

Done properly this is an architecture decision more than a content one, and getting it wrong is expensive to unwind later.

The country's digital economy spans AI, fintech, clean tech, digital health and software, with trust and privacy expectations shaping the market.

What buyers here get stuck on

  • Country-level architecture that city pages can sit under
  • Localisation that is more than spelling changes
  • Entity clarity across regions and legal footprints
  • Trust and evidence for a privacy-conscious market
  • Internal linking between national and city intent
  • An expansion plan that does not create duplicates

One idea worth taking away

Country pages and city pages want different things

The standard failure is a national page that reads like a city page and a city page that repeats the national one, after which both compete for the same queries and neither wins. Decide which layer owns which intent before writing either. A country page should answer whether you can serve the market at all; a city page should answer whether you understand that specific one.

  1. 01

    Understand the business

Audience, offer, current channels and the data that already exists.

  2. 02

    Find the bottleneck

The few problems most likely to move the outcome, not the full list.

  3. 03

    Build the smallest useful system

The pages, formats or campaigns that test the idea without a rebuild.

  4. 04

    Measure, learn and repeat

Track what happened, write down the learning, decide what changes next.

Buyers increasingly check a category through an assistant before they reach a results page. That does not replace search, and it does not run on a separate set of tricks: the same clear entity, useful answers and credible evidence feed both.

What nobody can promise is the outcome. Whether an assistant cites a given page is probabilistic, it varies by platform, session and region, and no consultant controls the selection layer. What is controllable is whether the page is retrievable, unambiguous and worth quoting.

How this gets measured

  • SearchImpressions, clicks and the queries that actually convert.
  • CoverageHow many buying questions have a real answer on the site.
  • EntityWhether the company is described consistently off-site.
  • AI citationDirectional only, where a platform reports it. Not a ranking.
  • BusinessQualified enquiries and assisted conversions.

  • Should Canada and Toronto have separate pages?

Yes, when they serve different intent, which they usually do. If you cannot articulate the difference, you need one page rather than two.

  • Do you handle multilingual SEO?

Where there is meaningful demand and a business reason, yes. French content that is a machine translation of English content is worse than publishing only in English.

  • Can you help a company enter Canada?

Yes. That work starts with demand, competitors, entity signals and localisation, before any page gets written.
