Search Console Multi-Country Filter and AI Report Guide

Search Console's country filter now takes multiple countries. Build combined-market views, pair them with the AI and multimodal reports, and avoid traps.

Google announced on 6 October 2026 that the Search Console Performance report's country filter now accepts several countries at once, returning one combined set of Search traffic. That makes market-cluster reporting (for example India plus UAE, or US plus Canada) a two-click job. It does not yet answer every question, so this walkthrough covers how to use it, what to check, and how to pair it with the Generative AI and multimodal reports.

Key Takeaways

  • Announced 6 October 2026 via a Google Search Central LinkedIn post; Google's wording: "If you operate in multiple countries, you can now view their combined Google Search traffic."
  • Before, comparisons of countries or devices were limited to two items and one active comparison, according to PPC Land.
  • Google gave no rollout schedule, and Google's advanced-filtering help page still showed the old two-item wording when PPC Land checked.
  • It is unclear how CTR and average position are computed for merged countries, so avoid over-reading them.
  • The Generative AI performance report (launched 3 June 2026) shows impressions only, no clicks or queries; whether the new filter applies to it is not confirmed.
  • Save a baseline screenshot or export now, because filters and definitions in new features sometimes shift.

What was announced

Search Engine Roundtable covered the change on 6 October, using a United States plus Canada example, and pointed to Google's LinkedIn announcement (Search Engine Roundtable, Google's LinkedIn post). PPC Land describes the interface: tick several countries in the Country dialog and apply. It also reports Google's screenshot showing Brazil, Japan and the United Kingdom ticked (PPC Land).

Search Engine Roundtable says Google's note also mentioned device filtering; PPC Land said Google did not confirm whether device filters changed. I'm treating the device part as unconfirmed. Search Engine Journal also carries a write-up (SEJ), which I saw only as a search result. For the basics of filters and the Performance report, Google's Search Console Help covers URL Inspection, the tool I use to check individual pages.

Why this matters to marketers

Most Indian edtech and SaaS teams I talk to sell into clusters: India, UAE, Singapore, US. Previously you either looked at one country or a two-way comparison. A combined cluster view lets you answer "how is our GCC audience doing in Search?" without exporting and stitching data. It does not replace analytics, because Search Console only reports Google Search.

How to build a multi-country view

  1. Open Performance, then Search results.
  2. Add a filter, choose Country, and tick every market in your cluster.
  3. Apply, then set the date range (I use 28 days plus the same period a year earlier).
  4. Check queries and pages tabs. Remember tables cap at 1,000 rows, ranked by clicks, and privacy filtering still applies (PPC Land).
  5. Export the data and note the countries in the filename.

Cautions on the combined numbers

  • CTR and position are unexplained. PPC Land notes Google did not explain how they are calculated for a merged selection. Sum clicks and impressions yourself and recompute CTR from them when it matters.
  • Mixed intent. A combined view hides the market that is actually moving. Look at each country alone before you present a story.
  • Language. Country is not language. A Hindi query from the UAE and an English one will mix.
  • Sampling of anonymised queries. Rare queries in small countries drop out first.

Pairing it with the Generative AI report

Google introduced Search Generative AI performance reports in June 2026 (Google Search Central blog). PPC Land's summary says the report covers AI Overviews and AI Mode, lists impressions by page, country, device and date, and does not include clicks or queries, and that it reached every site by 31 August 2026 (PPC Land). I could not open the body of Google's own post, so treat those specifics as secondary.

How I use it: compare which pages show AI impressions by country against the standard report's clicks for the same pages. A page with strong AI impressions and falling clicks is a candidate for better snippet value, not necessarily a problem.

Pairing it with multimodal data

Google began rolling out web multimodal reporting on 24 September 2026, splitting web results into text-based and multimodal (Lens, Circle to Search), per PPC Land. There is no queries dimension for that type, and it is unclear whether top-level Web totals now include both, which could create a year-on-year break (PPC Land). Annotate your charts at 24 September. TechWyse and Google's own Search Central blog archive list the same multimodal announcement (TechWyse, Search Central blog), though I only saw those via search results and the archive listing.

What to do this week

  1. Define your market clusters in writing.
  2. Document the steps for each multi-country view so teammates can rebuild it.
  3. Take a baseline export before further reporting changes.
  4. Add notes for known events: the September spam update, which was reported complete on 8 October 2026 (I did not re-verify that here), and the Cloudflare default change from my crawler-access post.
  5. Brief stakeholders that the new view is Google Search only.

Reporting traps I'd avoid

Do not compare a multi-country view to last year's single-country figures without recalculating. Do not treat AI impressions as visits. Do not announce a trend from a week of data right after a spam update; I explain what that update is in this definition post.

Exports remain the safest way to keep a baseline when interfaces change.

Unverified and limitations

As of 9 October 2026: I did not open Google's LinkedIn post body (only its URL via coverage), could not read Google's June blog text, and the rollout schedule, device-filter change, and API availability are all unconfirmed.

A worked example

Say you sell a certification course in India, the UAE and Singapore. Build the cluster view for the three countries, then three single-country views. If cluster clicks are flat but the UAE is up and India is down, the story is a mix shift, not stability. Write that sentence in the report, with the numbers beside it. I would also check the top ten pages in each market for overlap: if different pages win in different countries, a single generic landing page is probably serving no one well. That is a content decision you can take to a sprint, which is what reporting is for.

Questions to put to your data each month

  • Which pages gained AI impressions without gaining clicks?
  • Which markets lost multimodal exposure after 24 September?
  • Did a Google update date line up with the change, or was it seasonal?
  • Which cluster would I fund differently if this trend held for a quarter?

FAQ

Can Search Console now filter by multiple countries?

Yes, according to Google's 6 October 2026 announcement as reported by Search Engine Roundtable and PPC Land. Tick several countries in the Country filter to see combined Search traffic.

Does it work for all sites yet?

Google gave no rollout schedule. If you do not see multi-select yet, check back; do not assume your account is excluded.

Does the combined view change CTR or position?

Google has not explained how those are calculated for merged countries. Compute CTR from clicks divided by impressions when accuracy matters.

Does the AI Overviews and AI Mode report include clicks?

Per PPC Land's summary, the Generative AI report lists impressions by page, country, device and date but not clicks or queries.

Does the multi-country filter work in the AI report?

Not confirmed. Google's post did not mention it, so test it in your own property.

Is this the same as Google Analytics country reporting?

No. Search Console covers Google Search impressions and clicks only. Analytics covers sessions from all channels.

Is there a limit on rows?

Tables still show up to 1,000 rows ranked by clicks, and privacy filtering still applies.

How should I label exports?

Include the date range, the countries, and the report type in the filename, for instance "gsc_gcc_web_28d_2026-10-09.csv".

Should I change my KPIs because of this?

No. Use it to see market clusters, not to rewrite targets mid-quarter.
